PORTIA’S PLAN

Geshtianna was getting sloppy and Portia was here for it. One of these days the distraction she kept secret from them all, the identity of whoever it was that fed from her, was going to get her killed, and Portia couldn’t wait. The sooner it happened, the better.

So far all of her attempts to get herself and the Gold Dragons out of Hell had failed. If they didn't escape soon…well, she wasn't going to think about that. It hurt her heart, the one she hadn't even been sure she had, when she did.

This time, when Geshtianna left for her regularly scheduled meeting, Portia followed her to the upper shadow portals that led to the surface, just to make sure the Queen was gone and out of range. Because if she caught Portia pushing her allure up into the building just above them, Geshtianna would recognize it for what it was.

A distress call.

The closer Portia got to the surface, the surer she became that Jett or at least the dragons he'd rescued from Hell were nearby. She'd been testing her new bond with the Shadow behind Geshtianna's back, and she'd felt the darkness Jett had always had within him in that element. It gave her heartburn to think this was like calling an ex-boyfriend. It had better work. She'd left Zon resting in their small cave, alone. If anything happened to him before she got back, she'd burn down all of Hell singlehandedly.

Because she was in love with him. She didn't like admitting it, but she was.

Somewhere in between him trying to save her, and her doing her best to save him, she'd developed feelings for him. Real feelings.

Portia concentrated on the sunshine he'd put into her heart, and the gusts of wind she felt swirling around in her chest every time she thought of Gris, and used those to catapult her allure up to the surface. She had no way of knowing for certain if anyone was even up there listening, but she had to try.

When she pushed her succubus allure out, the shadow opened and she fell into it, dark and swirling, in a strange dreamlike state. What that dream showed her was a group of Black Dragons just like Jett, coming right for them.

It worked. It actually fucking worked.

She sent as much of the power that drew prey to her into the shadow, so the Dragon Warriors could follow her trail, and then bolted for the caverns below.

When she got to the main one, she slipped into a tunnel in the back to get to her cave. Rumbling sounded from above. They were almost here. Just in fucking time too. Geshtianna and Dumuzid were facing down Zon and he was about to hulk out. He still wasn’t able to shift, but the Gold Dragon within him was clearly not happy.

"Back off, Geshtianna. You know he is mine." Portia put herself between her Queen and Zon.

"You two are up to something, and I don't like it." Geshtianna pointed her finger at Zon and he literally snapped his teeth at her like he was going to bite off her hand.
